Hi! My name is John!
I'm thirty-four, and I live in an apartment just outside of central Turin. I was born and raised in London by an Italian father and an English mother. My parents met during the last, legendary concert of the Beatles on the roof of Apple Records. They were two young, frenzied fans dressed in bell bottoms, tight t-shirts printed with flowers, and huge, round sunglasses. It's really hard to imagine them like that, and every time I come across their old photo hanging mural-sized in the living room, I can't help but laugh! My father now works as a clerk in a bank, and my mother still teaches English in grade school.
I'm the youngest of three children, and also the most coddled and spoiled, according to my siblings. Perhaps it's true. My life has always been smooth sailing. I've never had to work very hard at anything. I inherited the apartment I live in from Grandma Rita, and I decorated it with great care in my own style - a "metropolitan vintage" conglomeration.
Some things I salvaged from the attic in my parents' house, or from stands at flea markets, or much more often, online. These articles can be found alongside my collection of books and magazines on design, art and music.
My favourite piece is still the tennis racquet from the 1970s that I bought on Depop last year! I'd been searching for it for weeks, and when I finally saw a picture of it, I got in touch with the vendor straight away. Two days later, I went to his place to make sure it was in good condition, and I bought it.
I got a real deal, and it now occupies centre stage in my kitchen!
I work as an advertising graphics artist in one of the largest agencies in the area. I've always loved to draw. At school, my mind would often wander as I filled entire notebooks with cartoon characters. Goldrake was always the one I could do the best!
My mother still has those sheets, together with the report card entries that this passion of mine unfailingly generated over the years. "The boy gets distracted while doodling, and he doesn't pay attention," they all said, more or less! After completing school, I enrolled in a fine arts academy, and when I graduated, I found a job immediately.
I've been on my own for a few months, after a love story that lasted a couple of years... my relationships never last longer than that! When things start turning serious, and living together and raising a family becomes an issue, I run. I have no problem meeting new people. I'm a very sociable type and, I must admit, my English accent always makes an impression on women.
I really love boxing, which I've practised for some time. I let off steam and go back home tired, but full of verve, in the evening. I can't imagine someone waiting for me at home, even though it'd be convenient coming home and finding dinner ready, every once and awhile. I don't have time to cook. I can get by with a plate of pasta with tomato sauce or some tuna salad. But I do spend lots of time in the kitchen, because I've hung my beloved punching bag near the table, and I pummel it when I don't manage to make it to the gym. Everyone should have one at home. The whole world would be more relaxed!
