What's the best part of any working trip?

It's the moment when I open my front door, put down my leather suitcase, hug my boyfriend, look around and take a deep breath: I can finally relax, safe and comfortable in familiar surroundings. My name is Giulia. I'm a news reporter, and my home is really important to me: this is where I feel truly comfortable, where I surround myself with all the bits and pieces that mean so much to me - things that I have collected on my many working trips and holidays.

There is nothing I like better than to
sink into my favourite armchair ...

There is nothing I like better than to sink into my favourite armchair and read a book, or write my thoughts in my diary, or look through old photo albums – I find images from the past fascinating, and I collect old, yellowed photographs which have become almost magical with the passing of the years. I wonder who the people in the photos were? What were they thinking when the photo was taken? I could spend hours reflecting on these little fragments of the past. And I often put an old vinyl LP on the record-player and let my thoughts wander, listening to the music through the soft crackle and hiss.

I am normally up very early ...

Breakfast is an important meal which I like to eat sitting at the table while reading the newspaper and slowly starting to organize my day. As I drink my coffee and eat some cereal, I look around and smile, because each of the objects in my kitchen tells a story: the mug that I found at the antique market in Stockholm, the clock which my grandmother decided to give me when I went to live by myself, my Moleskines, arranged neatly on the bookshelf built using pieces of wood gathered during the walks that I took in the mountains with my parents when I was a child.

There are so many little treasures in my kitchen, and every morning it seems as if they greet me and wish me a good day. And speaking of clocks... it's late and I really need to hurry, otherwise I may be late for the first press conference!

So I hurry to get ready: my favourite shirt, black jeans, comfortable flats, just a touch of make-up and my inseparable camera to immortalize the whole event! Jumping on my bike, I pedal off with my hair blowing in the breeze: a new day has begun!

As a journalist, I travel a lot
and meet lots of interesting people ...

I think I'm very lucky in my job: as a journalist, I travel a lot and meet lots of interesting people, but I also have time to spend at home: between interviews and events, I can work from my kitchen, correcting the proofs of my articles or jotting down ideas for my next special report. This is why my preferred means of transport for the city is my bike – it never leaves me standing, and I can get everywhere quickly and be sure to arrive on time!

Once I get home, I just drop the material on the kitchen table and prepare some coffee or a fresh fruit salad before getting down to work. Every now and then I pause and look around the room and I'm happy that, together with my boyfriend, I created my kitchen with an eye to detail, making it practical, tidy and welcoming all at the same time.

I am fanatical about biological produce
and healthy, natural recipes ...

Today I must remember to pop over to the local farm on the outskirts of town to order my weekly shop: I am fanatical about biological produce and healthy, natural recipes – and I love cooking. So at the end of the day I'll be back in the kitchen, ready to have fun with my saucepans, trying out new recipes, new flavours and combinations so I can prepare a delicious vegetarian dinner for my other half!

At the end of such a long day,
a romantic dinner, accompanied by a glass of good red wine,
is just what we need.
