I’m thirty-three years old and for the past ten years I have been working on my parents’ farm.
I’m an oenologist. I inherited my passion for wine from my grandfather, Lidio.
I learnt to walk amongst the Müller Thurgau vines, which still today frame the same hills.
People who love life in the open hair can’t help but take a walk along the long golden rows of vines extending as far as the horizon. In autumn it’s an amazing sight! While those who are less energetic may follow the Wine Road in their car and stop off at one of the many wine shops along the route.
I know that road very well! I travel around all week as part of my job in my inseparable little yellow 1970s van, clocking up kilometres day in day out. It has been my travelling companion since I was eighteen years old.
Today I live on my own in a modern flat a few minutes’ walk from the ski slopes. I can put my ski boots on before I leave the house, though lately I have had less and less time to ski.
The flat is located fifteen kilometres from Trento, near the ski lifts on Monte Bondone. It has recently been refurbished to make better use of the space and reduce energy consumption to a minimum. It’s equipped with solar panels and under-floor heating and is extremely comfortable at all times of year. The pale wood walls and the large windows ensure it receives plenty of light. It’s furnished in a simple, modern style, using natural and reclaimed materials.
It’s suitable for a young active couple or a single like me!
From Monday to Friday I wake up very early. I am always pushed for time but I never go without my “champion breakfast” (as my mother called it when I was little to get me to finish it!): a toasted cheese sandwich, scrambled eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice. I love to sit down to my hearty breakfast and wait for the sun to rise between the mountain peaks! It sets me up for the day!
I always have an overnight bag packed ready near the entrance door because I often stay at some friend’s house overnight, so as not to tire out my “Freddy” (that’s what I call my beloved van!) too much. I find it fascinating for people to stay when I’m away and then discover some trace of them when I come back. I like to imagine people cooking with my practically new pans, sitting on one of my chequered poufs or climbing the blue steps to go to bed!
